About Soar Valley Music Centre

Soar Valley Music Centre seeks to promote the enjoyment and understanding of music for learners from all backgrounds. The Soar Valley Music Centre Programme was originally written to support the musical development of students who played in the Youth Orchestra of Soar Valley Music Centre, which is based in Leicester, Central England. We live in a cosmopolitan city therefore locally we have students from a wide range of backgrounds and from all over the world; places like India, Africa and the Caribbean. As the courses have developed we have been increasingly able to encourage musicians who play non-orchestral instruments and offer them opportunities they might otherwise have been denied. The courses have been written to allow learners to develop their own musical interests and ideas at all levels from beginner to Higher Education. We have a wide selection of options to cater for every learners needs whether you are a rock musician or a classical violinist you should find the support and guidance you need no matter what level you are at. We offer support with music theory, scales, ensemble work, and conducting and much more besides in addition to the modules we offer.

OUR SUCCESS

Soar Valley Music Centre currently offers much more than simply music courses. We have two thriving orchestras for different age ranges and standards who regularly tour. In recent years our senior orchestra has visited Sovenia, Austria, Framce, Spain, Germany, Italy, St. Lucia and many more... We have many other ensembles and recently we have visited Italy and St Lucia with some of our chamber groups.

This year we have exchanges planned for Holand, Germany and Italy.  Although the year is only just beginning, we have just returned from Slovenia & Austria.

In addition to our courses and instrumental teaching we also offer specialist weekends and workshops from time to time for learners and instrumentalists of all ages, for example we held a composition workshops and chamber workshop in July.

It is now possible to learn Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass, Piano, Piccolo, Flute, Oboe, Cor Anglais, Clarinet, Saxophone, Bassoon, Trumpet, Cornet, French Horn, Tenor Horn, Trombone, Euphonium, Tuba, Percussion tuned and untuned, Drum Kit, Electronic Keyboard, Electric (Lead or Bass) Guitar, Acoustic\Classical Guitar,Singing (Classical or Pop), Sitar, Tabla, Dohl, Harmonium, Accordion, and Steel Band … and we are sure the list will continue to grow. Last year aside from the individual instrumentalists who have lessons with us we enrolled up to a hundred students and of those 79% stayed with us and achieved credits at either Level 1, 2 or 3. Our E2E students yet again achieved a 100% rate of sucess and have all progressed onto either further training or employment.
