Welcome to the Junior Orchestra page!
Junior Orchestra meets on Thursdays 4pm-5pm
Junior Orchestra was established by Liz Dunn, after the success of The Symphony Orchestra.
Junior Orchestra is primarily a children’s orchestra for beginner musicians to Grade 3 standard and meets regularly on a Thursday afternoon during term time, between 16:00 and 17:00. There is an annual fee of £35. Many of the students that start in Junior Orchestra and then move up to The Symphony Orchestra when they reach a high enough standard.
Junior Orchestra plays a wide range of music, from the three Orchestra Program’s by Edward B. Jurey, Galloping Home by Denis King, Wallace & Gromit by Julian Nott, Wills Blues by Nina Young and many more.
Junior Orchestra has a full season of concerts, including the annual concert at St James the Greater church on London Road, and the birthday concert held at The Claremont Centre. Mayflower Methodist Church is also a regular venue for the orchestra's concerts.
Every year Junior Orchestra has a residential weekend in May, where they learn new music and sing together in a Choir. The weekend is filled with musical activities involving the children working together to learn new music and culminates in a performance.
Members of The Symphony Orchestra who have come from Junior Orchestra, come along and train the Junior Orchestra during the weekend. Some members help during the academic year.

The Story

An exciting trip for Junior Orchestra members, giving them a chance to get to know each other, and take part in a rewarding weekend of music. The weekend ends with a concert on the Sunday afternoon, for parents to see what has been achieved over the weekend.

This concert is a culmination of a years' hard work, and gives our members a chance to show off what thy have achieved throughout the year. Please put this in your diaries now as it is always fantastic to get a good turnout for the biggest concert of the year.

We are hosting another Open Mic night, this time in a more central location.

Following the success of our last open mic night at the same venue in September, we will now be holding a Christmas themed open mic night. This will be a fantastic opportunity to get together and bop along to all your favourite Christmas tunes!

Our annual Christmas concert! Come along for festive music, and as always there will be an after party in the church hall next door.

It's that time of year again, it's Soar Valley Music Centre's birthday!
