Junior Orchestra

 Junior Orchestra

The Junior Orchestra was founded in 1976, and continues to be an excellent starting point for young musicians wanting to play in an orchestra. Many of our best player at Soar Valley Music Centre started in the Junior Orchestra, and moved up to the Symphony Orchestra as they became older and more experienced.

The Junior Orchestra meets regularly during term time on a Thursday afternoon, between 4 o'clock and 5 o'clock, and is available primarily to primary-school-aged children who have been playing their instrument for about a year. There is an annual subscription of £25.

As well as playing regular concerts at The Claremont Centre and Mayflower Methodist Church, the orchestra also spends the May bank holiday on a residential trip to Quorn Hall. This annual event is enjoyed by all who attend, and is a great opportunity to develop both musical and social skills. Last year's weekend was very successful, see the pictures here, and this years looks set to be even better.

The orchestra plays many pieces, some written specifically for a young orchestra, while others are arranged for the orchestra. This year the programme has included Prelude in G - Jurey, Slavic Air - Beethoven, Evening Hymn - Fleming, Morning - Grieg and Winter from The Four Seasons - Vivaldi.
