- About us
|Welcome to Soar Valley Music Centre. We are a charity which aims to bring training in music and media to everyone and anyone. We work mainly, but not exclusively, with young people.
Over the years Soar Valley Music Centre has trained thousands of young people from all backgrounds and given them a route into the industry.
The charity now offers projects and courses for all kinds of people from those coming from a youth offending background, to young people at risk, young people with barriers to learning, those who don’t go to school or are at risk of exclusion, as well as talented young musicians seeking dynamic and specialised support.
This is achieved through the wide range of provision available at Soar Valley Music Centre ...
It is with some sadness that I am saying goodbye to everyone at Soar Valley Music Centre. I have been involved in the centre for over 20 years but find the time is right to move on and downsize my job to spend more time at home and with my family (as all the best politicians say). I have enjoyed my time at the centre and look forward to visiting it as a guest in the future.
Thank you to everyone who helped us raise £100 to go to the Children's Cancer charities to support Ryan Swain who has been diagnosed with Childhood Lymphoma. I handed over the cheque to his parents this week and they send their thanks to everyone who donated.
We are thrilled to announce that we will be starting a new class for children 4,5 to 7 years old. The class will be running from 3:45 to 4:45 pm every Friday (term time only), at SVMC, Claremont Methodist Church, Claremont Street, Leicester LE4 7QG.

It is forty years ago that Liz Dunn set up the orchestra which met after school at Soar Valley College. There were a handful of instruments and very inexperienced players but the emphasis was on learning together and having fun. Anyone who comes along to the Music Centre today will tell you the emphasis is still the same.
If anyone is in doubt about where to learn an instrument they only have to look at our consistency with exam results. Our learners of all ages achieve outstanding results year on year whether in practical or theory exams.
This Autumn term saw 37 candidates entered for practical examination and 6 candidates for theory examination.
The overall results were:
Distinction - 11
Merit - 21
Pass - 11
Congratulations to all who took their exams and to their teachers for ensuring they were well prepared.
